Uganda has clarified that it has no confirmed active Ebola cases following reports of an Ebola infection involving a Nigerian woman who recently travelled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for business.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued by Prof. Charles Olaro, Director-General of Health Services, who urged the public to remain calm while investigations into the reported case continue.

According to the statement, preliminary information indicates that the woman travelled to eastern DRC and transited through Uganda in early October without showing symptoms.

She reportedly developed symptoms after arriving in Nigeria.

The Ugandan health authorities stressed that the woman’s transit through the country did not establish that she contracted the virus there, adding that the location of exposure remained under investigation.

The statement noted that the Nigerian government had yet to provide detailed information about the woman’s travel itinerary and clinical history, which would help guide further investigations and any necessary contact tracing.

It also explained that limited provisions had been maintained for humanitarian and diplomatic movements.

The Ministry of Health said it would work with relevant agencies to strengthen screening and public health controls at points of entry.

It urged the public to observe regular handwashing and sanitising practices while relying on verified information from official sources.

The ministry assured the public that updates would continue to be shared through its official communication channels.

Members of the public seeking information or wishing to report suspected cases were advised to call the Ministry of Health hotline on 0800-100-066, send an alert SMS to 6767, or use U-Report on 8800.
