The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal herbal product manufacturing facility in Agege, Lagos State, following a media report on herbal products bearing falsified registration numbers.
The agency disclosed that its investigative team conducted surveillance after a report published by a national daily newspaper on Oct. 10, 2026, raised concerns about the products.
NAFDAC said the team subsequently discovered three variants of Asheitu Adams Bitters bearing registration number A7-1827L.
Verification through the agency’s NAFDAC Automated Product Administration and Monitoring System (NAPAMS) portal revealed that the registration number belongs to Greentol Cough Syrup, confirming its fraudulent use on the herbal products.
The agency said the company’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer was absent during the operation, while its manager was arrested for further interrogation.
NAFDAC urged members of the public to provide credible information on suspected illegal manufacturing activities through its call centre on 0800-1-623322 or 0700-1-623322.
