NTSB begins investigation of United Airlines flight 613 to Washington from Lagos airport

US – The United States National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) says it is investigating the January 24 accident involving United Airlines flight 613, a Boeing 787-8 enroute from Lagos, Nigeria, to Washington Dulles International Airport, when a sudden aircraft movement led to injuries of passengers and cabin crew.

 

NTSB disclosed this on the board’s X account.

 

“The incident occurred as the airplane was flying in Côte d’Ivoire airspace. The Bureau Enquêtes et Analyses of Côte d’Ivoire delegated the investigation to the NTSB.

 

“A preliminary report will be published on the NTSB website in approximately 30 days.”

 

Recall that on January 23 at 11.59 pm, the United Airlines aircraft had departed the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) enroute Washington with a total of 245 adults on board.

 

The aircraft was said to have developed a technical ish at about 3.00am which necessitated an air return to MMIA.

 

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in a statement signed by Mrs Obiageli Orah, the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN also confirmed the incident stating that four passengers and two crew members sustained serious injuries while 27 passengers and five crew members had minor injuries.

 

It was said that the team of Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, Aviation Medical and Aviation Security were right on time and waiting at the gate when the aircraft parked safely for deboarding at D31 and the door was opened at 3.37 am
