Nigerian protocol officers have joined the campaign against unruly passenger behaviour in the aviation sector, with the Nigeria King and Queen of the Air (NKQA) using the 2026 International Protocol Officers Conference (IPOC) to promote its ‘Not on My Flight’ initiative.

The campaign seeks to raise public awareness about disruptive behaviour at airports and on board aircraft, which has become a growing concern for airlines and aviation stakeholders.

Cabin crew members are particularly affected by such incidents, as they are often required to manage difficult passengers in the confined space of an aircraft, with some reported cases escalating into violence.

While the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) are implementing monitoring and enforcement measures to curb such incidents at airports and on board flights, the NKQA is complementing these efforts through public education and advocacy.

At the conference, Mr Adeyemi James Abebote of Arik Air, the King of the Air, and Miss Blossom Dallenes Ubani of Ibom Air, the Queen of the Air, are extending the campaign through messages displayed on T-shirts, public advocacy and social media engagement.

The initiative seeks to convey the collective position of Nigerian cabin crew members against unruly and disruptive passenger behaviour and encourage travellers to conduct themselves responsibly throughout their journeys.

The campaign also aims to mobilise the flying public to recognise the consequences of disruptive conduct and support efforts to maintain safety, order and professionalism in air travel.

More than 200 delegates from various sectors and states of the federation attended the conference, which focuses on protocol management and travel facilitation.

The convener of IPOC and Chairman of the NIGAV Centre, Mr Fortune Idu, said the annual gathering provides a platform for protocol officers and travel facilitators working in Nigerian organisations to learn, exchange information and review professional practices.

He said the conference also offers an opportunity to discuss issues relating to order, discipline and best practices, including the campaign against unruly passenger behaviour.

According to Idu, promoting the initiative ahead of the festive season is particularly important because incidents of disruptive conduct tend to become more prevalent during periods of increased travel.

The participation of protocol officers is expected to broaden the campaign’s reach by using their professional networks to reinforce responsible conduct among travellers and other stakeholders.

The ‘Not on My Flight’ campaign forms part of wider efforts to encourage passengers to respect aviation safety procedures, follow crew instructions and avoid actions that could jeopardise the safety and comfort of fellow travellers.

Through public advocacy and awareness, the organisers hope to strengthen cooperation between passengers, cabin crew, airlines and airport authorities in addressing disruptive behaviour across the aviation industry.
