President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election, calling for stronger bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, energy and aviation.

Tinubu, in a statement issued by the State House on Monday, said Lula’s renewed mandate offered an opportunity to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Brazil.

“I congratulate my friend, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, on his re-election for a record fourth term,” Tinubu said.

He noted that diplomatic relations between both countries dated back to 1961, adding that their positions as leading nations of the Global South provided opportunities to advance shared economic and strategic interests.

“As two leading nations of the Global South, we can promote economic integration and advance our shared interests in a rapidly changing global order,” he said.

The Nigerian president expressed his readiness to expand cooperation between both countries across several sectors, including trade and investment, agriculture and food security, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, science and technology, education, aviation and cultural exchange.

He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening multilateral cooperation with Brazil and advancing shared priorities across Africa, South America and the wider Global South.

Tinubu wished Lula success in his new term, expressing optimism about the prospects for deeper relations between the two countries.

“On behalf of the people of Nigeria, I wish you a successful new term in office,” he said.

The statement was signed by Tinubu in Abuja on October 26, 2026.
